The problem

Online stores collect apps and plugins the way garages collect boxes. Each one solved a problem once. Together they slow the site, clash with each other and leave scripts behind after they are uninstalled. One update and a payment method stops appearing at checkout.

The other common pain is data moving between systems: stock between the store and a warehouse, orders into accounting, products from a supplier feed. These usually work until they quietly do not. We trace the fault, fix it at the source and add a check so you hear about it next time.

What we watch for

  • Checkout and payment changes are tested end to end before and after deployment
  • Peak trading periods such as Black Friday and Christmas — we avoid risky changes close to them
  • Leftover scripts from uninstalled apps, which often cause slow pages and errors
  • Customer and order data handled only through access you grant, never via passwords
  • GST, shipping and discount rules — we build to your settings, you confirm they are correct

E-commerce / Straight answers

Before you ask.

How much does it cost to fix a Shopify or WooCommerce store in Australia?

Most defined online store fixes cost between $250 and $2,000 AUD, quoted at a fixed price before work starts. Shopify custom sections start from $400, and most Shopify builds land between $400 and $3,500. WooCommerce jobs typically run $300 to $3,000. Speed clean-ups are usually $500 to $2,500, and stock, order or accounting integrations $600 to $3,500. If a fix turns into something bigger, we stop, explain what we found and re-quote before going further.

Why has Afterpay or another payment method disappeared from my store’s checkout?

Usually it’s a settings, eligibility or app conflict rather than a fault in your store’s code. Common causes are a store address or currency that doesn’t match the payment provider’s region, an account that isn’t fully activated, order value limits, a recent app or theme change, or an outdated payment plugin on WooCommerce. We check the payment settings, the provider dashboard and recent changes, then test checkout end to end on real devices. Checkout outages are triaged first, and most fixes are completed in 1 to 7 business days.

Why is my Shopify store so slow, and will removing apps help?

Often, yes. Apps and plugins are one of the most common causes of a slow online store, especially ones that load scripts on every page or leave code behind after being uninstalled. Large images, video, sliders and stacked tracking pixels add to it. We measure first, remove or replace what isn’t needed, clean up leftover theme code and compress images, then measure again so you can see the difference. We work on a theme duplicate or staging copy. Most performance jobs cost $500 to $2,500 and take 3 to 10 business days.

Can you work on a live online store without breaking it?

Yes. We make changes on a duplicate theme, staging site or development store where the platform allows, test checkout and key pages, then publish at an agreed time when trade is quiet. For WooCommerce, that includes a backup before updates. If something goes wrong after publishing, the previous theme or backup can be restored. We avoid risky changes close to peak periods such as Black Friday, Click Frenzy and Christmas, and we’ll tell you when a change is safer to hold until afterwards.

How do I fix stock or orders not syncing between my store and Xero or my warehouse?

Start by finding where the data stops: in the store, in the connector app or in the receiving system. Syncs with Xero, ShipStation, a 3PL or a supplier feed usually fail quietly because of a changed SKU, an expired connection, a rate limit or a product the other side doesn’t recognise. We trace the fault, fix it at the source and add a check so you hear about the next failure before you oversell. Where an off-the-shelf connector fits, we use it instead of custom code. Integration work usually costs $600 to $3,500.

How do I improve SEO for my Shopify or WooCommerce store?

Fix the technical basics first: clean product and collection URLs, unique titles and descriptions, no duplicate pages created by filters and tags, redirects for removed products, and product schema with accurate price and availability. Stores often lose ground after a theme change or platform move because redirects were missed. We audit those issues, fix what lives in the theme or code, and give you a short list of content and product copy changes you can handle yourself. We don’t promise rankings or sell link building. Technical SEO audits start from $600.

Will ChatGPT or Google’s AI recommend products from my online store?

It can, but no one can guarantee it. AI shopping answers draw on product information they can read: your product pages, structured data, product feeds such as Google Merchant Center, and reviews elsewhere. Clear product titles, original descriptions instead of manufacturer copy repeated across the web, accurate price and stock in your schema, and pages that load without heavy scripts all make your products easier to understand. We can check and fix the technical side. Whether a particular assistant features your products is outside anyone’s control.

What laws apply to running an online store in Australia?

Several, and you should confirm how each applies to you with an adviser. Australian Consumer Law covers pricing, refunds, warranties and how fees are shown, and the ACCC has acted against businesses that hid mandatory fees until late in checkout. The Spam Act covers marketing emails and SMS sent from tools like Klaviyo, including consent and unsubscribe links. The Privacy Act may apply depending on your business, and GST settings need to be right. We build to your settings and to accessibility good practice; you confirm the rules with your adviser.

Should we move our store to Shopify or rebuild it from scratch?

Sometimes, but rarely as a first step. Many problems that feel like a platform problem are really app clutter, theme code or a broken integration, and fixing those costs far less than a migration. A move can make sense when the platform no longer fits how you sell, hosting is a constant fight or upgrades are blocked. We usually fix the current store first and give you an honest view on whether a move is worth it. A full migration of products, customers, orders and redirects is generally bigger than our fixed-price jobs, and we’ll say so.

Can you check my online store before Black Friday or a big sale?

Yes, if there’s enough lead time, ideally a few weeks. A pre-sale check is a good small job: we test discount codes and automatic discounts, checkout and payment methods, shipping rules, page speed with the sale banners in place, and purchase tracking. Fixes go in well before the sale, not the night before. We don’t need your password; you add us as a staff or collaborator account and remove it afterwards. Major changes close to a sale aren’t something we recommend.
